Albania to strengthen ties with Greece
Albania wants to strengthen cooperation with Greece and other nations in the Balkan region, it’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Edi Rama said on Monday.
Rama, who was speaking after a meeting with visiting Greek Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos in Tirana, thanked Greece’s backing for Albania’s EU membership ambitions and expressed hope that his administration will receive further support during Greece’s upcoming presidency of the bloc, according to a statement issued by his office.
During his visit, Venizelos also met with Albanian President Bujar Nishani. In comments made after the meeting, Nishani spoke in favor of closer bilateral cooperation adding that the two neighbors “must not remain hostage to populist nationalism.”
