Judges indict suspect over 2010 deadly arson attack on Marfin

A council of misdemeanor court judges has indicted a suspect over a fatal arson attack on a Marfin Egnatia Bank branch during a protest rally in central Athens in May 2010.

The suspect is accused of throwing a homemade firebomb inside the bank after two unknown accomplices broke the front window and doused the entrance with a flammable liquid. Three bank employees – including a pregnant woman – died after becoming trapped inside the building.

The council said the aim of the arsonists was to kill everyone inside the building – 24 people at that time.

Judges have also indicted another suspect in connection with a separate attack on the nearby Ianos bookstore during the same protest.
