NY-based diaspora charity makes large donation for struggling Greeks
New York-based charity The Hellenic Initiative has selected three Greek non-governmental organizations through which to distribute a donation worth $650,000 (481,000 euros) to struggling Greek families.
The group, which was founded in 2012 by prominent members of the Greek diaspora, will be splitting the donation between the SOS Children’s Villages initiative for the protection of abused and abandoned children, the Greek Orthodox Church’s Apostoli food program in collaboration with the International Orthodox Christian Charities group, and with Praksis in aid of its free medical clinic and its outreach program for families facing homelessness.
