Municipal police’s former officers face tests for places in national force

Greece’s municipal police officers, who found themselves without jobs this summer when their force was disbanded, are to have the chance of joining the police if they can prove that they are at least 1.70 meters tall and can pass a psychometric test.

The government announced on Tuesday the criteria for ex-municipal officers being accepted into the national force, where some 1,600 of nearly 3,500 available employees are needed. Another 700 are to be employed at the Justice Ministry, 360 at the Interior Ministry, 250 at the Finance Ministry and up to 50 at the Development Ministry.

However, those over the age of 45 will not be employed as police officers. Also, if they are not more than 1.70 meters tall, they will be rejected. For women, the minimum height is 1.67 meters. Psychometric tests, which measure attitudes and personalities as well as knowledge, will be carried out as all the successful applicants will be trained to carry weapons.
