Two Security Police officers caught with contraband in Athens precinct

Two officers at the Athens headquarters of the Security Police were taken into custody on Thursday following an unannounced inspection of the precinct by internal affairs officers.

A search of the office of the 30-year-old precinct chief revealed five handguns, a double-barrelled shotgun, ammunition and other items whose presence in his work space could not be justified.

It also revealed the file and physical evidence of a case dating back from 2006, which had not been properly logged for investigation.

The second officer arrested is a 32-year-old sergeant whose locker was found to contain knives, 17 tablets of the prescription sedative Flunitrazepam and an identification stamp belonging to another police officer.
