Gale-force winds, strong rain cause damage on Rhodes

Heavy downpours and gale-force winds brought down trees and caused floods on the southeastern Aegean island of Rhodes on Thursday, damaging cars, blocking traffic and flooding homes.

The area that was worst affected was in the northeast of the island, where trees were uprooted, tiles torn off roofs and two bus stops dislodged.

Serious flooding was also reported on the main road from Rhodes town to the resort of Lindos on the southern coast.
