Suspect in Pangrati shooting remanded in custody

An Athens magistrate on Monday remanded a 23-year-old athlete who admitted to shooting and injuring a nightclub employee last week in the Athenian suburb of Pangrati.

The shooting took place in the early hours of October 13 during a fight between suspected rival soccer club fans.

The 23-year-old claims he saw a gun on the ground and grabbed it, firing twice without intending to hurt anyone.

One of the bullets hit a 24-year-old club employee in the chest. He is still in critical condition.
