Three face prosecutor for beating elderly woman to death, stealing her pension

Two men and a woman faced a Thessaloniki prosecutor on Tuesday charged with the murder of an 87-year-old woman who they allegedly beat to death in August after stealing her pension.

The suspects – a 34-year-old Albanian national, his 36-year-old Greek girlfriend, and a 24-year-old relative of the latter – are alleged to have entered the home of the elderly woman in Ano Poli and beaten her before fleeing with her 600-euro pension and a ring.

The head of Thessaloniki’s security police, Athinagoras Pazarlis, described the woman’s killing as “particularly brutal.”

The suspects are believed to be behind at least another four burglaries in the broader area, according to police.
