Rhodes man arrested for impersonating police officer

A 26-year-old man has been arrested on Rhodes for impersonating a police officer, authorities said on Wednesday.

The suspect is alleged to have stopped a car on the Dodecanese island on September 7, put handcuffs on the two men in the vehicle, aged 21 and 22, and then searched it.

The suspect was arrested after police stopped him in his own car and searched the vehicle.

Police found a baton, handcuffs and a police-style rotating beacon. He was accused of usurping authority, illegal possession of a weapon and illegally detaining fellow citizens.
