Pay-and-display parking to return to central Athens

Pay-and-display parking is due to return to the center of the Greek capital on October 29, the City of Athens said on Wednesday.

The practice was suspended during the summer, when the government disbanded the municipal police, who were responsible for monitoring the scheme.

The checks will now be carried out by regular municipal employees who will wear special badges so motorists know they have the right to check if they have purchased a scratch card allowing them to park in special bays in central Athens.

The employees will staff a new municipal department responsible for looking after public spaces.
