More than 40 works of art go missing from Athens Municipal Gallery
Dozens of works of art have gone missing from the Athens Municipal Gallery a recent inventory has found, according to reports on Thursday.
The circumstances under which the artifacts were lost remain unclear.
During a 20-month inventory at the gallery which began in January 2012 curators found that more than 40 pieces of art – including paintings, sculptures, engravings and honorary medals – had gone missing.
Officials are trying to establish whether the artifacts were stolen, stored in different places, or perhaps loaned to other institutions.
