Trial of suspects in 2010 deadly Marfin bank attack to begin Dec. 9

Two suspects linked to a fatal arson attack on a Marfin Egnatia Bank branch during a protest rally in central Athens in May 2010 are to stand trial on December 9.

According to a bill of indictment submitted by a council of misdemeanor court judges, video footage shows one of the two suspects throwing a homemade firebomb inside the bank. He is to face murder charges. The second suspect is to face charges of attempted murder for an attack on the nearby Ianos bookstore during the same protest.

Judges believe the pair were part of the same group of masked protesters wielding sledgehammers and clubs.

Three bank employees – including a pregnant woman – died in the Marfin Bank fire.
