Nikolaidis says no to PSG contract offer

Star striker Demis Nikolaidis’s move to French soccer club Paris St Germain has fallen through after the player balked at the team’s contract offer. «A proposal has been made to the player, which he refused,» a club spokesman said yesterday. Nikolaidis, who wanted a one-year contract with at best a renewal option, did not like the two-year contract offered by PSG. There were also rumors that the club wanted the player to return to form before signing. French sports daily L’Equipe reported yesterday that medical checks revealed that Nikolaidis, who was recently married to singing star Despina Vandi, would not be match-fit for three months. AEK, Nikolaidis’s former club, would like him back, but with a reduced salary. Nikolaidis, who has also been kept off the national team’s starting squad lately, will likely continue his career abroad.
