EU human rights court upholds wrongful incarceration appeal of Georgian held in Greece
The European Court of Human Rights on Thursday upheld an appeal against the Greek state by a 27-year-old Georgian national who served two years in a Greek jail on a drug-trafficking conviction before being acquitted of the charges by an appeals court and released.
Ruslan Mosinian, who is a resident of Thessaloniki, had appealed to the European court after his appeal to be awarded damages for wrongful incarceration was rejected.
The Strasbourg-based court found that Greece had violated Mosinian’s right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty and ordered the Greek state to pay him 10,000 euros in damages.
