Man caught in Patra with 93 forged police identity cards

A 52-year-old man was detained in the western port of Patra on Friday after police found on him 93 forged identity cards and seven fake driving licenses.

The suspect, a foreign national whose ethnic origin was not revealed, was stopped as he tried to board a ferry for Italy at the port. A search on his luggage turned up a file containing the forged documents.

According to sources, Coast Guard officials have launched an investigation together with police to determine whether the suspect belongs to a criminal racket providing immigrants with forged documents so they can travel from Greece to western Europe.
