Troika must be more accountable, says Schulz on visit to Athens
The Speaker of the European Parliament, Martin Schulz, has called during a visit to Athens for the troika to be more accountable.
Schulz spoke at the “South for Growth” conference in the Greek capital before meeting Foreign Minister Evangelos Venizelos.
“It is not possible for the troika, which has been created legally but whose actions interfere in people’s daily lives, not to be accountable to some institution,” said Schulz.
Schulz said he would keep up a campaign for more EU structural and regional funds to be put to work in Greece, particularly to help small- and medium-sized companies starved of liquidity.
