Magistrates to call in three more Golden Dawn MPs
Two top magistrates handling an investigation into the criminal activity of the neo-fascist Golden Dawn are preparing to summon for testimony three party MPs whose immunity was lifted last month. They are also expected to bring additional charges against lawmakers who have already been charged or who are in custody, Kathimerini understands.
Giorgos Germenis, Panayiotis Iliopoulos and Stathis Boukouras, who had their immunity lifted last month, are not expected to be summoned until the end of the month as the magistrates, Ioanna Klapa and Maria Dimitropoulou, are questioning witnesses whose testimonies are considered vital to making charges against the three MPs, and other GD lawmakers, watertight.
The witnesses are being questioned in complete secrecy amid heightened security fears following last week’s fatal shooting of two Golden Dawn members in Neo Iraklio, northern Athens.
A judicial source told Kathimerini that the murders would not change the focus and pace of the investigation.“Judicial authorities are determined to continue relentlessly with the investigation to reveal the gamut of the activity of Golden Dawn as a criminal organization,” the source said, adding that “the judiciary is not scared, nor will it be influenced.”
Kathimerini understands that Klapa and Dimitropoulou are drawing up new charge sheets against several officials and lawmakers of Golden Dawn who have yet to be named in connection with the investigation. Additional charges are also likely to be brought against some of the six MPs who were arrested in late September. Three are in custody while the others are out on conditional release.
