Search of Sierra Leone-flagged Nour M continues

Greek authorities on Wednesday ordered that the cargo of the Nour M, a Sierra Leone-flagged vessel intercepted in the southern Aegean last Thursday amid reports that it was carrying illegal weapons to Syria, be impounded.

A coast guard inspection on the containers of the Nour M on Monday turned up ammunition but no evidence of the 20,000 Kalashnikov assault rifles that the vessel had been rumored to be carrying.

Officers started moving the containers off the vessel and onto the dock at the main port of Rhodes on Wednesday.

Checks on samples taken from 50 of the 59 containers on the Nour M had been checked by late yesterday but no guns were found.
