Athens mayor testifies in connection to attack by Golden Dawn MP

Athens Mayor Giorgos Kaminis on Wednesday testified before two investigating magistrates in connection with an attempted assault on him in May by Golden Dawn MP Giorgos Germenis inside the premises of the City of Athens “social grocery store.”

Germenis allegedly tried to punch Kaminis after police stopped the neofascist party from staging a food handout in Syntagma Square. The MP missed and hit a child and was subsequently restrained by the mayor’s security guards while apparently trying to pull a gun from his pocket.

Kaminis claimed to have received threats after the incident. He testified before Ioanna Klapa and Maria Dimitropoulou, who are handling a criminal investigation into Golden Dawn.
