Turkish militant to remain in Greece, says court
Hasan Biber, wanted in Turkey in connection to attacks claimed by the outlawed leftist Revolutionary People’s Liberation Party/Front (DHKP-C), should not be extradited from Greece to his homeland, the Supreme Court in Athens ruled on Friday.
The judges overturned an earlier decision by a Piraeus court, which deemed that Biber should return to Turkey to face trial.
The suspect was arrested off the coast of Chios when coast guard officers boarded a speedboat and found guns and explosives on board.
A total of eight people were arrested. Biber, 55, is suspected carrying out a raid on the headquarters of the ruling AK Party in March. He has also been linked to a hand grenade attack at the Justice Ministry in the same month.
