Fashion entrepreneur faces prosecutor for debts to state, for the fourth time

Fashion entrepreneur and designer Lakis Gavalas on Wednesday faced a local prosecutor in connection to charges of owing the state some 700,000 euros in unpaid taxes. It was the fourth time that Gavalas faced a prosecutor over similar charges and a decision on the case was expected later in the day.

Gavalas was handed suspended prison sentences twice this year: he was given a five-year suspended prison sentence for tax evasion for 2012 to the sum of 1.5 million euros in July, following a seven-year suspended sentence in connection to another unpaid tax bill of 17 million euros in June.

The fashion professional spent 14 months in pre-trial custody at high security Korydallos Prison before being released in June. He is currently one of the local celebrities taking part in a popular dance competition charity show.

Meanwhile, morning television presenter and former publisher Petros Kostopoulos faced an Athens prosecutor on Tuesday after being arrested over alleged debts of 350,000 euros to the state. He was due to appear in court on Wednesday.
