Former publisher handed suspended sentence over debts

An Athens court on Thursday handed a suspended three-year prison sentence to the former publisher of the now defunct Apogevmatini daily newspaper, Constantinos Sarantopoulos, after finding him guilty of failing to make good on debts to the state estimated at 208,000 euros.

Apogevmatini closed down in October 2010 after Sarantopoulos filed for bankruptcy.
