Fifth suspect arrested over migrant drawnings off Lefkada
A fifth man was arrested on Wednesday in connection to the drowning of 12 migrants off the island of Lefkada in the Ionian Sea last month.
The 24-year-old man, who was not named, was arrested at his home in the village of Konopina in Aitoloacarnania, western Greece.
He is suspected of having helped transfer the 27 irregular migrants to Palairos, where they boarded a small plastic boat which capsized a little while later.
The suspect is a Greek national, taking to three the number of Greeks arrested over the drownings. Two foreigners are also in custody. A sixth suspect is being sought.
