IKA drops probe into SYRIZA debt

An investigation by the IKA social security fund into some 60,000 euros in contributions that SYRIZA had failed to pay has been dropped.

The debt arose in November and December of 2011 but was only discovered during a check in February 2012. IKA had attempted to sue SYRIZA and its leader Alexis Tsipras in April 2012 but the Athens First Instance Court rejected the case because the leftist MP’s parliamentary immunity had not been lifted.

Since then, SYRIZA has settled the debt of 60,819 euros and IKA has now dropped the case against the main opposition party.
