Three lightly injured in Thessaloniki train derailment

Three people suffered minor injuries after a train traveling from Athens to Thessaloniki carrying 120 passengers came off the tracks shortly after 11 a.m. between the villages of Lianoklado and Tithorea in central Greece on Tuesday.

According to initial reports, the train came off the rails when the driver tried put on the brakes after a herd of cows strayed onto the tracks.

The accident is expected to cause delays on all Athens-Thessaloniki routes until the train is removed for a safety check.

Buses were dispatched to the site of the accident to take the passengers to their destinations, while paramedics called to the scene reported that three passengers suffered only minor injuries.
