Truck drivers arrested for dumping radioactive waste at Fyli landfill

Two truck drivers were arrested and their vehicles were confiscated on Wednesday, for attempting to discard hospital waste, including radioactive waste stemming from radiotherapies, at the capital’s main landfill at Fyli, northwestern Attica.

Employees at the landfill who detected the truck drivers notified local authorities, including Attica governor Yiannis Sgouros, who subsequently visited the landfill. According to Skai, the waste came from the Asklipeio Voulas and Metaxa hospitals.
