New Athens metro station to open on Friday
A long-awaited extension to Line 3 of the Athens metro is to start operating from Friday morning when Aghia Marina station opens in western Athens on the border between the Aghia Varvara and Haidari municipalities.
The new station, which is expected to serve some 30,000 commuters on a daily basis, extends Line 3 westward, beyond the current terminal station at Aegaleo.
The line is to be extended further toward Piraeus, with another six stations, by 2017.
