Golden Dawn attack on Greek journalist condemned by IFJ

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has condemned an attack on a Star TV reporter by members of neo-Nazi Golden Dawn and urged police to arrest the suspects.

Panayiotis Bousios was struck on the head as he attempted to cover an event held by the far-right party in Neo Iraklio, northern Athens, on December 10.

“We strongly condemn this disgraceful attack by Golden Dawn members against journalists who were simply doing their jobs,” said IFJ President Jim Boumelha.

“Golden Dawn members continue to use fear and harassment against Greek media and their blatant disregard for media freedom cannot be tolerated. We urge the authorities in Greece to carry out an immediate and thorough investigation into this incident and bring the perpetrators to swift justice.”

Bousios’s assailants also verbally assaulted his cameraman and prevented the pair from filming the event.
