Minister oversees test launch of S-300 missile on Crete
A test launch of a S-300 Russian long range surface-to-air missile at the Akrotiri military base on Crete on Friday went smoothly, Defense Ministry sources said.
The missile was fired at an unmanned aircraft some 30 kilometers away, the sources said.
The exercise was overseen by Defense Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos and his Cypriot counterpart Fotis Fotiou as well as several top-ranking armed forces officials and representatives of foreign missions in Greece.
“Watching the exercise, I feel certain that the guarding of our borers and the dignity of our nation are in very capable hands,” Avramopoulos said.
