Police probing arson attack on ex-PM’s summer house

Police were on Friday investigating an arson attack on the summer home of former Prime Minister Costas Simitis in Aghioi Theodoroi, near Corinth. The residence was empty at the time of the explosion, which caused extensive damage to the living room and the kitchen.

Officers said the perpetrators had planted a homemade device wrapped in a blanket doused with an inflammable liquid in front of a balcony door. The police were alerted by an automatic alarm at around 2 a.m.

Police sources said the incendiary device resembled one used in a botched arson attack on an Athens metro station in February 2012. That act was claimed by an organization calling itself the February 12 Movement.
