Driver arrested, hospital official sought over dumping of medical waste in Attica
A City of Athens employee was arrested and a manager at the city’s Aghia Sofia children’s hospital was being sought on Sunday for allegedly attempting to dispose of medical waste at Attica’s main garbage dump in Fyli.
Police were called to the dump when employees discovered the medical waste in a garbage truck. The 37-year-old driver was arrested on the spot after environmental inspectors found syringes, bandages with blood and other items in rubbish bags.
Authorities were looking for a female employee at the hospital who was responsible for managing Aghia Sophia’s waste.
