Former transport minister faces fine and charges over traffic code violations
Former Transport Minister Michalis Liapis is due to face a prosecutor on Tuesday afternoon after being caught by traffic police earlier in the day driving a car with false license plates.
Liapis was stopped by traffic police in Artemida, eastern Attica, on Tuesday morning for a routine inspection that revealed the license plates of his SUV were forged. He was also driving without a license and could not produce valid insurance.
He was taken to traffic police headquarters in the northern Athenian suburb of Aghia Paraskevi, where he was fined 500 euros. He will also have to face a prosecutor later in the day to answer to charges regarding the false license plates.
