Trial of suspects in 27-year-old migrant’s fatal stabbing begins
A 29-year-old fireman and a 25-year-old private sector employee were expected to appear in court on Wednesday over charges of murdering a 27-year-old Pakistani in Athens on January 17.
Dionysis Liakopoulos and Christos Stergiopoulos are accused of fatally stabbing Luqman Shahzad with a knife in Petralona. The defendants, who were identified by witnesses at the scene of the crime, have argued that they got into a row with the victim after he allegedly got in their way with his bicycle. The two suspects were riding a scooter.
The murder was included in the case being built against MPs, officials and members of Golden Dawn by special magistrates Ioanna Klapa and Maria Dimitropoulou, after GD pre-election pamphlets were found at the 25-year-old’s residence along with bats and knives.
Luqman had been living in Greece for the past six years and had a job loading oranges onto trucks.
