Public administration inspector poised to release report on OKANA

Public administration inspector Leandros Rakintzis on Thursday said that salaries at the state-run Organization Against Drugs (OKANA) had risen by more than 150 percent under the stewardship of Meni Malliori.

His claims came on the same day as Malliori handed her resignation to Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis after his deputy, Zeta Makri, accused the chief of the country’s biggest rehabilitation program of mismanagement.

Speaking to Proto Thema daily, Rakintzis said that he will be ready to release four separate reports on the organization next week, but suggested that some employees at OKANA have recieved large pay rises and that “numerous dysfunctions and financial losses” have been found.

Makri earlier this week said that a probe of the organization revealed an 8.4-million-euro shortfall. Malliori has countered that OKANA had debts in excess of 37 million euros when she was appointed in March 2010.
