Greek prosecutor launches probe into debt collection tactics
The first instance prosecutor’s office in Athens on Friday announce it was launching an investigation into the practices used by debt collection agencies.
The probe was prompted by a program on Alpha TV that suggested some companies that collect debts for financial institutions and others are breaking the law.
The judicial investigation will examine whether the firms are abiding by privacy laws and respecting consumer rights.
The probe will be led by prosecutor Charalambos Lakafosis.
