Greek island wind parks get green light from ministry

The Environment Ministry on Friday gave the go-ahead for the construction of wind parks on the Cycladic islands of Naxos, Paros, Tinos and Andros.

Minister Yiannis Maniatis approved the environmental study for the seven wind power parks that are to be constructed, generating energy that will be equal to about 1 percent of total demand in Greece and estimated benefits of 262 million euros for the real economy.

The ministry rejected the study for building a second wind farm on Andros.

There is currently a tender for a 400-million-euro project to connect the Cycladic islands with the country’s main power grid.
