Rain and storms forecast for Christmas

Showers and scattered storms have been forecast on Christmas Eve, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service said on Tuesday, warning that the rainy weather would sweep mainly through the eastern and southern Peloponnese, the western Cycladic islands, western Crete and possibly parts of Attica.

Storms are expected to continue through Wednesday morning, with the islands of the Cyclades and the Dodecanese getting the worst of the weather, which will begin easing on Wednesday night.

By Thursday, storms are expected to be limited mostly to the Dodecanese, with the rest of the country experiencing sporadic showers, which will intensify once more on Friday.

Temperatures is Athens will range from 7-15 Celsius on Christmas Day, 11-15 Celsius on Thursday and 8-14C on Friday.

The weather in Thessaloniki will be significantly colder with temperatures ranging from 1-10 Celsius on Wednesday, 3-10C on Thursday and 3-13C on Friday.
