Wet front to sweep in from the west, bringing storms to most parts of Greece

A wet front is expected to sweep in from western Europe, bringing downpours and storms to most parts of Greece on Friday, the Hellenic National Meteorological Service (HNMS) said on Thursday, warning that winds will reach speeds of 6-8 on the Beaufort scale in the Ionian and Aegean seas.

The front will hit western Greece in the early hours of Friday before spreading east and bringing showers and storms across the mainland and to the Greek capital later in the morning, the HNMS said. Snowfall is also forecast for parts of the western mainland at an altitude of 1,200 meters and above.

The stormy weather will continue through Saturday and is expected to be particularly intense in the Cyclades, Crete and the islands of the eastern and southern Aegean, though it will begin to ease off on Saturday afternoon.
