Golden Dawn funding suspension becomes official

The suspension of state funding for Golden Dawn became official government policy on Christmas Eve.

The decision to stop state funding to any party linked to criminal activity was approved by MPs last week but published in the Government Gazette on December 24.

The motion to cut off state funding to political parties if their leaders or a tenth of their lawmakers are charged with involvement in a “criminal organization” or “acts of terrorism” was backed by 241 out of 272 deputies, while 26 voted against.

The party was due to receive 873,000 euros in state funding this year.
