PM to present Greek presidency goals to EU Parliament on Jan 15
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras is due to present the priorities of the Greek presidency of the EU to a plenary session of the European Parliament on Wednesday, January 15.
The official ceremony marking Greece assuming the six-month rotating presidency will take place at the Athens Concert Hall a week earlier.
The college of EU commissioners are due to attend.
They will also take part in an inaugural meeting that will be held at Zappeio Hall on the same day.
Greece is aiming for a low-cost presidency that will not require more than 50 million euros to be spent, with the vast majority of events being held in Athens.
The EU banking union, maritime policy, illegal immigration and youth unemployment are expected to be some of the issues that will dominate the Greek presidency.
