Leader of Greece’s DIMAR party to nominate unknown as new secretary
Democratic Left (DIMAR) leader Fotis Kouvelis is set to nominate an unknown 35-year-old his party’s new secretary in a bid to revive its flagging fortunes.
Sources suggested that Kouvelis will name Thanasis Theocharopoulos as the successor to the experienced Spyros Likoudis, who announced earlier this month that he was stepping down from his position due to differences with the DIMAR chief.
Theocharopoulos is not well known, even within his own party, but is respected by Kouvelis.
He currently holds the position of special secretary at the Development Ministry.
However, to succeed Likoudis he will have to win a vote at a meeting of DIMAR’s central committee on January 11.
