Kammenos to invite former ND deputy to join Independent Greeks

Independent Greeks Panos Kammenos (photo) on Tuesday said he would invite conservative politician Vyron Polydoras to join his right-wing, anti-bailout party.

Polydoras was last month booted from ruling New Democracy’s parliamentary group for failing to vote in favor of the unified property tax.

“[Polydoras’s] rebellion came a bit late for me. However, he remains an important figure,” Kammenos said, adding that the two men would meet in the coming days.

The Independent Greeks chief, a former conservative MP, ruled out the prospect of election cooperation with ND, PASOK or Golden Dawn.

Also on Tuesday, Kammenos said he would take legal action against Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis after the latter suggested that Kammenos had built a holiday home on the island of Icaria with European Union subsidies.

Kammenos has denied the allegation, saying that the property in question belonged to his mother-in-law, who had claimed the funds to convert it into a 10-room guest house.
