Three arrested over suspect Hellenic Postbank loans
Three people were arrested on Thursday morning following a probe into allegedly suspect loans issued by the Hellenic Postbank between 2006 and 2011, according to reports.
Police are seeking another four people. Earlier reports said more than 10 arrest warrants were issued on charges of money laundering and fraud at the expense of taxpayers at the state-owned bank.
Police have arrested Dimitris Kontominas, owner of a large Greek media group, who is currently undergoing medical treatment at an Athens clinic, reports said. Kontominas issued a statement denying any wrongdoing.
Marios Vorotsis and Charalambos Giangoudis, former deputy managing directors at the bank have reportedly also been arrested.
The probe came in the wake of a report by the Bank of Greece citing a plethora of bad loans which have been deemed non-performing for a long time.
