Seven arrested for baby trafficking in Volos
Seven people, including five Bulgarians, were arrested on Saturday in Volos, central Greece, on suspicion of involvement in baby trafficking.
Investigators said a 62-year-old Greek was detained after he arranged to buy a baby boy born on January 5 at Volos General Hospital for the sum of 5,000 euros. The deal is believed to have been made in September.
Police said they also arrested a 24-year-old woman from Bulgaria who gave birth to the baby. A Greek lawyer and his Bulgarian associates have also been arrested.
During a search of the lawyer’s home, investigators found documents on four other adoptions carried out last year. The material has been forwarded to the Volos prosecutor.
