Cephalonia officials invite actors Cage and Cruz to return to island after quakes

Local officials on Cephalonia have approached film stars Nicolas Cage and Penelope Cruz about visiting the island, which was struck by a second strong earthquake in eight days on Monday.

The pair filmed scenes of Captain Corelli’s Mandonlin, which was released in 2001, on the island and Cephalonia deputy Mayor Evangelos Kekatos told Ant-1 TV that an invitation had been issued to the two actors to return to the island.

According to Ta New newspaper, Kekatos said he hoped they would accept and help give the island some positive publicity after the damage it suffered as a result of the two quakes and multiple aftershocks.
