Train operator to take action against cattle farmers after accident narrowly averted

Greek national railway operator Trainose on Tuesday said that it will be taking legal action against cattle farmers in the region of Fthiotida, central Greece, who allow their herds to stray unchecked after a third accident was narrowly averted in the early hours of Monday.

According to local media sources quoted by Skai on Tuesday, a driver operating the Lamia route in the early hours of Monday managed to bring the train to a halt after a herd of cattle strayed onto the tracks. A similar incident had occurred on Sunday and in mid-December, with the drivers on both occasions managing to stop without causing any injuries to their passengers even though their trains came off the tracks.
