Russian mobster arrested in southern Athens
A 41-year-old Russian national on Interpol’s wanted list, charged with murder and participation in a criminal organization, was taken into custody by Greek authorities on Saturday in the southern Athenian suburb of Glyfada, the state-run Athens-Macedonia News Agency (AMNA) reported on Tuesday.
The unnamed suspect is wanted by authorities in Russia, who believe him to be a member of a criminal gang and are accusing him of murder.
He was arrested in Athens on Saturday morning during a large-scale operation involving the police’s special forces (EKAM) at a house in Glyfada that was leased by another two Russians, aged 32 and 44, who have also been taken into custody and face charges of harboring and abetting a criminal.
The 41-year-old is said to have been leading a lavish lifestyle while in Greece, according to the AMNA report.
Another two Russians aged 50 are being sought on collusion charges.
