‘Zero Tolerance’ group claims responsibility for attack on minister’s office

An urban guerrilla group calling itself ‘Zero Tolerance’ on Tuesday claimed responsibility for a firebomb attack on the central Athens office of Interior Minister Yiannis Michelakis on January 14.

In a letter sent to To Pontiki newspaper, the group admitted to reducing the office, located on Amerikis Street near the upscale Kolonaki district, to “ashes and embers.”

Nobody was injured in the blast, which was caused by a device that contained cooking gas canisters.

“It is unnecessary to mention why this particular obsequious servant of the capitalists became our target,” the group said in its lengthy letter, which also made reference to Christodoulos Xeros, a November 17 terrorist group convict who absconded while on leave from prison in early January and is still at large.

The group expressed solidarity with Xeros and accepted a call to arms he made shortly after his escape in a video posted on the Internet in which he vowed a return to action.

Zero Tolerance has also claimed responsibility for setting off a rudimentary incendiary device outside the political office of New Democracy MP Fevronia Patrianakou in July.
