Greek prosecutor asks Parliament to lift ND lawmaker’s immunity [Update]
A prosecutor on Wednesday asked Parliament to lift the immunity of New Democracy deputy Gerasimos Giakoumatos in order to investigate whether charges should be brought against the conservative MP in connection to the operations of a retirement home in Neo Psychico, northern Athens.
The deputy’s wife, who is the home’s president, and his brother, its managing director, have been arrested on suspicion of tax offenses.
Giakoumatos has denied any financial involvement in the business.
However, according to sources, prosecutors have the testimony of several witnesses who allege that Giakoumatos was involved in the institution’s operation.
