Drug racket suspect stopped near Albania with huge cannabis haul

Police in the northwestern city of Ioannina on Friday were questioning a 43-year-old resident of Trikala after an inspection on the car he was driving the night before close to the Greek border with Albania turned up nearly 200 kilograms of cannabis.

The suspect was taken in after the check, which was carried out by members of the Ioannina narcotics squad and border guards from Konitsa and revealed 198 kilograms of cannabis as well as a Kalashnikov assault rifle, and dozens of rounds of ammunition, in his car.

Police are seeking the man’s suspected involvement in a large cross-border drug smuggling operation.
